I recently went to visit a friend who was blessed with twin girls. I brought along my camera for funsies and snuck in a few photos. Motherhood is amazing. This is a picture of little Rebecca. To be honest, I’m not 100% sure if I managed to get any photos of Rachel. All of our hands were busy the whole visit!

Remember back in January I had the opportunity to take some engagement photos of some dear friends? The sneak peak was a long time ago so I figured it’s best I share some of the photos from the day! This is the second couple I had the pleasure of photographing and each time I learn loads and loads.

I learnt that I am an absolute sucker for black and white shots. I also love shots of people walking, front or back.

I learnt that it’s so important to know your clients, whether they are friends or not. Many people can capture beautiful pictures of you but capturing true emotions that are real is the hard part. I showed a few friends these photos and I think it was a running trend. “That’s so them”. I loved that.

I have never used the graudated filter in Lightroom before so I’m playing with it a bit more. I learnt that I like photos on the warming side but I have to be careful not to overwarm photos.

I learnt that it’s so easy to tell when two people are in love.

I learnt that I have to increase contrasts and blacks if I’m going to convert a photo to black and white.

I learnt that sometimes not giving a couple any direction produces beautiful natural shots.

I learnt to capture little quirks that each couple find are important to them.

I learnt to play with different angles.

I learnt that I suck at lighting and that I don’t know how to fix certain things like that over yellow sun.

I learnt that couples posed like this look absolutely breathtaking.

I learnt that going down into the river valley was not the smartest lighting.

I learnt the importance of bringing an extra memory card because this was the last picture I snapped before I had to go into my memory card to delete other photos.

I learnt that lense flare can be really annoying. I have yet to learn how to avoid them.

I learnt that photographing friends is very rewarding.

I had a chance to go out on a gorgeous stroll with my hubby, puppy and a couple good friends. We spent the rest of the afternoon gabbing about wedding stuff and I’m so happy that all of that’s behind me now. Isn’t she going to make a gorgeous bride? Love you guys.

I’m excited to do a bit more sharing of some photos Jamie and I took recently. Our good friends, Penny & Scott, will be welcoming a new addition to their family fairly quickly so they wanted to get some photos before the new little one shows up! I have never set out to photograph a family before other than my own and all of those are super portrait style where we sat in a row and tried to look pretty for the camera sitting on the tripod. What I learnt: 2 year old children are hard to photograph! We somehow managed to sneak in some shots but boy, I really struggled! We started with some indoor shots. Penny was kind enough to let us bring our puppy over to play with hers so Annika is having a good ol’ time watching the puppies play.

Penny had to explain to Annika that Khuno and Ceniza weren’t actually fighting.

After we got a bit bored of watching the dogs play, we decided to do some tree decorating! Annika even made her own ornament!

We soon realized that a 2 year old really can’t be left on her own to decorate the tree so the whole familiy joined in!

Is she her father’s daughter or what? See the resemblance? I think she looks more like Scott but many people see more Penny in the munchkin. What do you think?

Next it was time to head outdoors! After lots of bundling, Penny decided to show Annika how to make a snowball! All Scott had to say was, “This is some pretty crappy snow.”

Of course we couldn’t forget Ceniza! She’s a big part of the family too!

The bosses of Scott.

The super cute baby belly!

Don’t you just love Annika’s cute little scrunchie face when she’s laughing?

After our fingers started getting a bit too cold, we headed inside for some hot chocolate with marshmellows!

This might be the only picture I have of Annika where she’s actually looking at me!

After we warmed up, Annika decided to show us her mad puzzle skills. Look at that proud daddy!

The morning ended off with some delicious Panago pizza. Thanks for a great day guys! Hope you enjoy the pictures!

Hello photography world! What an amazing site FotoJournal is and I’m excited to start my very own FotoJournal! I orginally started a little blog on Blogger but after visiting a few blogs of some of the photographers I love, I finally noticed the trend! I love the layout and clean look of FotoJournal and I’m excited to start documenting my journey into the vast world of photography. Today I’m sharing lil baby Ella at just over 3 months old.
